Weekly Activities November 18 – 24

Another busy week ahead in the life of our Trinity Family!

Wednesday Night at THE WELL is our annual POTLUCK THANKSGIVING!

Here’s a quick note from Well Coordinator Vinny Thomas:

Hi everyone!

Thank you to those who have already signed up for the pot luck. It helps Denise and I know what gaps we need to fill in. At this time, we do not need anymore cornbread/bread.

Items that are still needed:

Stuffing
Salad
Gravy
Potatoes
Cranberry

We are so excited to celebrate Thanksgiving as church family this Wednesday. Feel free to invite a friend! We always understand that some people are not able to bring anything and we never judge so please join us regardless! 🙂

Sincerely,
Vinny

Reminder: There will be NO WEDNESDAY ACTIVITIES NOVEMBER 27!

Advent is coming, sooner than you think!

THIS SUNDAY, November 24, is the day to decorate the sanctuary, and WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to help!

Join us in the main sanctuary after the 11am service, and we’ll put you to work!

Not this week, but don’t forget to sign up for the PROGRESSIVE DINNER!

Calling All Helpers!

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Thanksgiving falls late in the month of November this year. So late, in fact, that the first Sunday in Advent is only THREE DAYS after.

In order to be ready, the Sanctuary decorations need to go up on Sunday, November 24th, immediately following the 11am service.

Can you stay to help us?

No signup, just show up.

We’ll show you what to do!

Wellness Tips We Can Learn From a Dog

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

When it’s in your best interest, practice obedience.

Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory.

Take naps and stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you’re not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone you love is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you (advisedly/carefully).

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout — run right back and make friends.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

One of my deepest beliefs is that God gives us dogs (and other domestic pets) to teach us things that God wants for us to know and practice.

The Holidays are quickly approaching. While they can be joyful occasions, they can also be stressful. Love one another as Christ (and your pet) loves you.

Daily prayer: “Dear God, please help me to be just half the person my dog thinks I am.”

In Christian Love,

Rev. Jim

The Well

If it’s Wednesday, it must be THE WELL at Trinity!

Reminder to all tonight:

Next week is the annual WELL THANKSGIVING POTLUCK.

The turkeys are covered, but we need ALL the trimmings!

Vinny will have the sign-up sheet tonight. Decide what you’d like to bring and let her know!

Missions Updates

Carter BloodCare reports that they are extremely low on their blood supply. The BloodCare mobile unit will be in our parking lot Sunday, December 1 from 9:00 – noon collecting blood. Please look for members of the Missions Committee with clipboards before each service Sunday to schedule your blood donation. Thank you for donating!

We still have a few W.S. Ryan Christmas angels to be adopted. The unwrapped gifts are due to the church December 1. If you would like to donate wrapping paper and tape, it would be appreciated. Please be sure to attach your angel ornament to the gifts.

We are still wanting to have donations to W.S. Ryan for the 5th graders to attend Camp Grady Spruce, and are still collecting winter clothing.

Missions Update

The Missions Committee at Trinity has a new project to tell you about, and an update on the Adopt An Angel project.

Camp Grady Spruce is an outdoor learning experience that W.S. Ryan students go to overnight from December 3 – 6, 2019. Camp Grady Spruce directly aligns with 5th grade Science TEKS. At the camp, students ride in a pontoon boat, hike, compete in archery competitions, ride horses, set the table for meals, and take science notes. Students also compete in night games, star gazing, and star lab.

Camp cost per student is $171, but over 40% of the W.S. Ryan student population is economically disadvantaged.

If you would like to help these students, please make a donation and place it in the offering plate by November 24. Mark your cash stating Camp Grady Spruce, or If donating by check, please write Camp Grady Spruce in the memo line. Thank you!

The project for November is the W.S. Ryan Adopt an Angel for Christmas. Members of the Missions Committee will be in the Narthex Sunday, November 10 to help you adopt one of these angels in order to meet their Christmas wants and needs. Gifts are due Sunday, December 1, 2019.

You can see the rest of November’s Mission Projects in the post linked here.

Emergency Response Team

A message from Dwain Martin:

Hello everyone.

Most of you know me, but for those that don’t my name is Dwain Martin.

We are starting up the Emergency Response Team at Trinity UMC, and I will be heading up the committee that will put policies in place to make our church as safe as it can be.

The first thing we’ve done is purchase some trauma kits. This Saturday November 2nd at 9:00 AM we will have a training on what to do with them in case of emergency. This will be in Lowery Hall.

I have included you in this email because some of you have shown an interest in making our church safer, or you are in a position where you’re either overseeing a group (children, youth) or on the front lines of the church (usher, greeter, office). Anyone interested, or know someone that is, in this training please let me know who can be there this Saturday.

Let’s be prepared for the worst, and pray for the best.

Thank you, Dwain Martin
