Why We Give

[section_tc][column_tc span=’12’][text_tc timing=’linear’ trigger_pt=’0′ duration=’1000′ delay=’0′]

Sir Winston Churchill is primarily remembered for being the Prime Minister of The United Kingdom from 1940-1945 and again from 1951-1955. He is also remembered for many of his humorous quips and quotes.[br_tc][br_tc]Most importantly, he is remembered as transitioning from an agnostic to a Christian believer.[br_tc][br_tc]My favorite Churchill quote is:

[/text_tc][spacer_tc pixels=’15’][/spacer_tc][blockquote_tc author=’Winston Churchill’ delimiter=’ ‘]

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

[/blockquote_tc][text_tc timing=’linear’ trigger_pt=’0′ duration=’1000′ delay=’0′]

I am more interested in making a life than I am making a living! Aren’t you?[br_tc][br_tc]Do you remember the words of scripture we read during Lent?

[/text_tc][spacer_tc pixels=’15’][/spacer_tc][blockquote_tc author=’Mark 10:45′ delimiter=’ ‘]

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” [nbsp_tc]

[/blockquote_tc][text_tc timing=’linear’ trigger_pt=’0′ duration=’1000′ delay=’0′]

One of the most inspiring and humbling words I’ve ever heard were right here at Trinity. A young girl said to her mother, “Mommy, I really love Pastor Jim.” Her mother replied, “Why do you love him?” She said, “Because I know he loves me.” And she is right…I do love her! I don’t mind telling you that tears came to my eyes when the little girl’s mother recounted that story to me.[br_tc][br_tc]The scriptures teach us that “We love because God first loved us.” (1 John, 4:19).[br_tc][br_tc]God is a God of grace. God always takes the first step – the first initiative. God alone makes the first move in our lives. Our job is to respond with joyful obedience.[br_tc][br_tc]Do you know why I give? I give because it feels good![br_tc][br_tc]John Wesley offered some good advice in his sermon, “On the Use of Money,”

[/text_tc][spacer_tc pixels=’15’][/spacer_tc][blockquote_tc author=’John Wesley’ delimiter=’ ‘]

1.[nbsp_tc][nbsp_tc][nbsp_tc][nbsp_tc] Earn all you can.[br_tc]2.[nbsp_tc][nbsp_tc][nbsp_tc][nbsp_tc] Save all you can.[br_tc]3.[nbsp_tc][nbsp_tc][nbsp_tc][nbsp_tc] Give all you can.

[/blockquote_tc][text_tc timing=’linear’ trigger_pt=’0′ duration=’1000′ delay=’0′]

Jesus gave all to us? How can we not give everything (within our means) to God’s church?[br_tc][br_tc]I Love our Lord and Christ. I love you, the faithful members of Trinity UMC.[br_tc][br_tc] I love you and I thank you for your sacrificial and generous giving![br_tc][br_tc]Rev. Jim

And a Little Child Shall Lead Them (Isaiah 11:6)

Trinity United Methodist Church is growing and thriving! Do you know why there is a feeling of dynamism and vibrancy in our church? Do you know why the Spirit of the Lord is in this place? Because of the children — that’s why! Because of the educational opportunities offered by TUMC through programs like TLC (Trinity Learning Center), THE WELL on Wednesday nights, the many musical opportunities offered to the children, Kid’s Night Out, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, the children of Trinity are inviting their friends. Their friends, of course, have to ask their parents to bring them. Once their parents discover that Trinity is a loving, nurturing, Spirit-filled place where everyone can love and serve God, they soon begin to learn the timeless and eternal stories of Jesus.

Jesus showed us the true nature of God: A loving Parent who calls, welcomes, teaches, nourishes, forgives, heals, and renews everyone in mind, body and soul! Don’t you find it interesting that whenever Jesus saw the children he called them to himself even while many in his’ day thought they were a nuisance? (Matthew 19:13-15). Jesus loved children so much he even went as far to say that if we really want to see what the Kingdom of Heaven looks like, we better become like a child! (Matthew 18:3). Can you imagine what would happen at Trinity if we followed the children’s lead? What if we (like the children) unashamedly, unabashedly, and unapologetically invited our friends, relatives, neighbors, and acquaintances to come and experience what is happening in our church through loving, serving, and glorifying God together! If you want to get an up-close personal look at the way our children are leading the way in building the Kingdom of God, join us on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. at THE WELL!
