PRAYERS

My name is Sue Jenkins; one of my favorite passages about prayer is James 5:13-16.

Is anyone among you in trouble?  Let him pray.  Is anyone in good heart?  Let him sing praises.  Is one of you ill? Let him send for the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord;  the prayer offered in faith will heal the sick one, the Lord will restore him to health and if he has committed sins they will be forgiven.  Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER, that you may be healed.  A good person’s prayer is very powerful and effective.

This passage gives me comfort knowing I have a faith community that will care for me by praying for my trials and blessings.  This passage provides me a way, by praying, that  I can love and give to the Body of Christ, particularly at Trinity UMC.  Prayer is one of the mysteries of the faith.  But, I know that when I pray for someone,  somehow the Holy Spirit connects me with the person for whom I am praying and we are bonded by the Spirit.  This spiritual connection shares the love of God between us and that makes us stronger and more peaceful.  Trinity UMC is a praying church and for that I am so grateful.

Key Word:  Prayer

Prayer:  Dear God, thank you for honoring our prayers.  Thank you for giving us a way to experience your Spirit and share it with others.    Draw me closer to you and closer to others through my prayer life.  Amen
